Sunway BlueLight MPP – Chinese SuperComputer

by on Jan.21, 2012, under Knowledge Base

China’s first supercomputer built with “domestically-produced” microprocessors and capable of performing around one-thousand-trillion calculations per second has become officially operational.

The supercomputer ‘Sunway BlueLight’ was installed in September 2011 at the National Supercomputing Center (NSCC) in east China’s city of Jinan.China recently came out with a new supercomputer to pound all computers. It’s one hell of a powerhouse. This beefy new computer has been installed at the National Supercomputer Center in Jinan.

Sunway BlueLight MPP(神威蓝光) Supercomputer, is the first publicly announced PFLOPS supercomputer using ShenWei processors solely developed by the People’s Republic of China. The water-cooled 9-rack system has 8704 ShenWei SW1600 processors (For the Top100 run 8575 CPUs were used, at 975 MHz each) organized as 34 Super Nodes (each consisting of 256 compute nodes), 150TB main memory, 2PB external storage, peak performance of 1.07016PFLOPS, sustained performance of 795.9TFLOPS, LINPACK efficiency 74.37%, and total power consumption 1074KW.

It underwent a three-month-long trial operation period before going into official use, making China the third country in the world to be capable of producing a supercomputer with domestically produced processors after the United States and Japan.

A product that is a combination of high-density packaging and low energy consumption technologies, the supercomputer ranks among the world’s leading supercomputers in terms of comprehensive performance.

Is there Destiny ? NO

by on Aug.26, 2011, under My views

If you believe in destiny then you must not read ahead. Everyone has his/her own thoughts just like few like color blue, few red, few black, etc. The choice depends from person to person. Similarly, those who don’t believe in destiny can justify the non-existence of such insipid thing like destiny but it won’t be understood by people who firmly believe in it.

As Said by Wilcox, Ella Wheeler

“There is no chance, no destiny, no fate, that can hinder or control the firm resolve of a determined soul.”

It is the determination alongside with many factors which determine the course of the events to occur in future. For example we might be able to predict it in future using super computers(might sound funny and impossible right now, just assume it for now) and the believers of destiny would say “This is our destiny”. Again the events occurring in future is because of out actions which will lead to it. If we can change it, it won’t happen. The supercomputer would generate another prediction for damn sure. This changing of future was cause of the “butterfly effect” in the actions which the super computer predicted to happen. Anyways, I deviated from the topic to explain it.

Destiny is because of what we do. Not because of what is to happen. iPhone came to existence coz Steve Jobs came with it. It did not drop form the sky or because of the destiny. It was because of the innovation and the hard work of Apple. It is the human mind which makes it a destiny when it finally happens.

Destiny does not control us, we control it :)
