Love Marriage or Arranged Marriage ?

by on Jul.31, 2012, under My views

Most people dream about their perfect partner. They have predefined features and criteria to match in their partner. Few of them find them by so called love and few get by arranged marriage. Does this define a perfect relation ship ? NO. A perfect marriage is built everyday with moments, where a couple understands and trusts each other. It can be both love or arranged.

As goes a famous saying :

A successful marriage is an edifice that must be rebuilt every day.
- Andre Maurois

Marriage is an important part of every human life. In India we have had a tradition of arrange marriage from long long time back. Love marriages have also had history from being rare to common nowadays. Each one of them have a success story and sad stories as well. Saying one is better would not justify it. But, finding the right one would be what one should look for.

Love Marriage or Arranged Marriage
Arranged marriages are built on strong solid foundations and have a greater chance for success because commitments are based on a combination of thoughts and emotions. A child raised with the expectation of families or chosen representatives arranging future mates, is often raised in a family or social situation where family and community share importance in this same foundation. Their expectations of partners and married life are different from those who simply believe they will fall in love and live happily ever after. It is actually built everyday!

A misconception about arranged marriage is that of choice. In an arranged marriage with all the traditional criteria of a good character, a good family, and a good future, people come together with the same expectations, goals and values. While the youthful passionate love may not overwhelm the couple, a love based on mutual respect, acceptance and friendship often emerges. The important thing is both of them agreed. No one if forced to marry. I agree few days are not enough to know each other but even a lifetime is never enough! Agree ?

Romantic love is often defined by society as either full of need and expectations. Love with conditions creates an unrealistic expectation, the person loved is the perfect marriage partner. If this love is superficial based on appearances, sexual prowess or material trappings, where is the foundation to keep this love intact? The first wave of discontent or unhappiness triggers the unraveling of romantic love.

The emotional needs and wants do NOT overwhelm an arranged marriage. In today’s world of marriage and “live happily ever after,” too many people enter marriages with stars in their eyes. They truly do not have the traditional courtship of the past where families knew each other, and the support system of the community was in place. They do not have a voice of reason to talk them through immature and premature decisions that have long term affects on their lives. As the expression says “marry in haste and regret in leisure.”

Women without the support of family and community become consumers of magazines, books, programs and movies to define their personal relationships including marriage. How many women are seeking “the one,” that perfect partner or soul mate? Well, look around to ads, magazines, articles and the answer is obvious. Prince Charming has a name, soul mate.

An arranged marriage isn’t seeking a soul mate or Prince Charming. An arranged marriage is seeking partnership and compatibility. For example, a mother seeks a husband for her daughter; she will seek a man who will be acceptable to her daughter and their family. She knows her daughter’s preferences, expectations and desires. Her maturity and wisdom will help to balance the to ensure her daughter’s emotional and practical success in marriage.

Perhaps because expectations are based on different sets of criteria, those in arranged marriages have an advantage over those with love marriages. They know and accept expected roles and responsibilities. They have a future journey filled with steps and goals and realistic expectations. They also know that failure has a greater impact and there is a greater commitment to succeed in this marriage. This marriage is more than just a couple, its also often an extended family and community.

Critics may argue a woman has her personal freedom removed because she is unable to marry who ever she pleases. The question to ask is this, would more marriages survive IF a firmer foundation based on shared visions and practical aspects of life, instead of whimsical romantic love? While any marriage can fail, for a million reasons, an arranged marriage provides a head start in the race for marital success.

Marriage is based on trust and not on arranged or Love !

You Google and get a Scientific Calculator Search Result

by on Jul.26, 2012, under Knowledge Base

Google, you are awesome. You Google and get a Scientific Calculator Search Result. I just found this feature and can’t stop myself writing a blog on it.

So how does it work ?
Just open google.com and try searching any mathematical expression.
Like : cos 180

And the Search Result is :

Google search has long featured a built-in calculator function but a recent update added a fully functional 34-button scientific calculator. Previously, when a user entered, say, 2+3, Google would simply display the sum (5) above the search result. Now, when that equation is entered into the search bar, the answer pops up along with the new calculator. Best of all, this works in mobile browsers and voice search, too.

This isn’t a stripped down calculator, either. It’s a full-power, voice-enabled scientific calculator with nearly all the functions of a tangible model. Plus, it doesn’t require two AAA batteries. A Google Product Manager pointed out in this post’s comments that the scientific functions appear when the phone is rotated to be viewed in a landscape mode.

This is just Google’s latest addition to its nerdy toolbox. The search bar already performed graphing functions. Now, with Google, Wolfram Alpha, and the sheer number of apps out there, there really isn’t any excuse for not being able to finish your math homework.

DNSChanger Trojan

by on Jul.08, 2012, under My views

There has been lot of over-hyped reactions on “DNSChanger trojan” specially among non-techies, who even don’t have any idea what a DNS is ?

What is DNS ?
DNS (Domain Name System) is an Internet service that converts user-friendly domain names into the numerical Internet protocol (IP) addresses that computers use to talk to each other. When you enter a domain name, such as www.askrahul.com, in your web browser address bar, your computer contacts DNS servers to determine the IP address for the website. Your computer then uses this IP address to locate and connect to the website. DNS servers are operated by your Internet service provider (ISP) and are included in your computer’s network configuration. DNS and DNS Servers are a critical component of your computer’s operating environment—without them, you would not be able to access websites, send e-mail, or use any other Internet services.

Why attack DNS ?
Criminals have learned that if they can control a user’s DNS servers, they can control what sites the user connects to on the Internet. By controlling DNS, a criminal can get an unsuspecting user to connect to a fraudulent website or to interfere with that user’s online web browsing. One way criminals do this is by infecting computers with a class of malicious software (malware) called DNSChanger. In this scenario, the criminal uses the malware to change the user’s DNS server settings to replace the ISP’s good DNS servers with bad DNS servers operated by the criminal. A bad DNS server operated by a criminal is referred to as a rogue DNS server. And then whatever website you visit will be decided by them, you may be trapped in Phishing, in which your passwords will be saved.

What Does DNSChanger Do to My Computer?
DNSChanger malware causes a computer to use rogue DNS servers in one of two ways. First, it changes the computer’s DNS server settings to replace the ISP’s good DNS servers with rogue DNS servers operated by the criminal. Second, it attempts to access devices on the victim’s small office/home office (SOHO) network that run a dynamic host configuration protocol (DHCP) server (eg. a router or home gateway). The malware attempts to access these devices using common default usernames and passwords and, if successful, changes the DNS servers these devices use from the ISP’s good DNS servers to rogue DNS servers operated by the criminals. This is a change that may impact all computers on the SOHO network, even if those computers are not infected with the malware.

How to check for virus?
Double-checking for the malware only takes a minute. Here’s how to do it:
The Canadian Internet Registration Authority (CIRA) has done much of the legwork for you by setting up an online screening system for your computer.
Visit the website www.dns-ok.ca/ and click on a link agreeing to run your computer through the DNSChanger malware checker. The page should refresh and show you either a green or red banner, with a message stating whether DNSChanger has been detected.

If it’s green, you’re in the clear. If the banner is red and a message confirms the virus has been detected, you can go to one of several websites set up to help inform the public about the virus and the related FBI operation for further instructions on how to remove it:

  • FBI
  • DNSChanger Working Group
  • Public Safety Canada

If your PC is among this lot, your connection with the Internet will be snapped when the FBI sleuths begin a clean-up act on Monday morning. Your PC might pop a message: “Failed to resolve your request’. That’s it :)

God Particle is actually Goddamn Particle

by on Jul.05, 2012, under My views

I wish our Media Channels (India) who could use some sense and stop misleading dumb watchers of their show. Lets explore the truth about it :

…Lederman said he gave it a nickname because the particle is “so central to the state of physics today, so crucial to our understanding of the structure of matter, yet so elusive,” and added that he chose “the God particle” because “the publisher wouldn’t let us call it the Goddamn Particle, though that might be a more appropriate title, given its villainous nature and the expense it is causing.”

via Wikipedia

What is the Higgs boson?
The Higgs boson cannot be seen but scientists believe it exists. Why? Because scientists also believe that something called the Higgs field exists and the Higgs boson is part of that field.

Hmmm, so what’s the Higgs field?
The Higgs field is everywhere in space, or so scientists believe. Think of the Higgs field as oil and everything that passes through it is slowed down. Higgs bosons “stick” to particles of matter, dragging on them — they give them mass.

If the Higgs boson can’t be seen, how do you detect it?
You spend $4.4-billion building a 27-kilometre underground tunnel that provides work for about 10,000 scientists and engineers. You then send protons whizzing around the tunnel at about the speed of light until they crash into each other. It is at this point — where man has created conditions similar to those at the birth of the universe — that a glimpse of the Higgs boson may be seen. But scientists will have to be quick because the Higgs boson is believed to decay almost instantly after it interacts with other particles.

Why is it important?
The origin of mass (meaning the resistance of an object to being moved) has been fiercely debated for decades. Finding the Higgs boson would vindicate the so-called Standard Model of physics, a theory that developed in the early 1970s, which says the Universe is made from 12 particles that provide the building blocks for all matter.

How sure are they?
If physicists say they’ve found the Higgs boson then they probably have. In scientific parlance, the goal is “five sigma,” meaning it is 99.99997% likely to be genuine. But experts are already being cautious. Last week, CERN boss Rolf Heuer cautioned about the need for verification: “It’s a bit like spotting a familiar face from afar. Sometimes you need closer inspection to find out whether it’s really your best friend, or your best friend’s twin.”

And why is it called the “God particle”?
Like God, it is everywhere but hard to find, goes the quip. In fact, the origin of the name is rather less poetic. It comes from the title of a book by Nobel physicist Leon Lederman whose draft title was “The Goddamn Particle,” to describe the frustrations of trying to nail the Higgs. The title was cut back to The God Particle by his publisher, apparently fearful that “Goddamn” could be offensive.

Will this change my life?
Not in the slightest. If the Higgs boson exists it means that some very clever physicists 50 years ago came up with a theory and now they have been proved right. If it exists then it will add to the sum of human knowledge.

It sounds rather boring, doesn’t it?
WHAT!! On Twitter, a conversational thread called “Higgsteria,” has already been established. “Whether or not the Higgs has been found, tomorrow will be exciting,” said Prof. Peter Knight, president of Britain’s Institute of Physics. “If the Standard Model is confirmed via the discovery of the Higgs boson or whether we need to abandon and start re-writing the textbooks, it’s a historical day in science that we should all be proud of.” So that’s all very exciting.

Continuum – Another Time Jump Serial

by on Jul.01, 2012, under My views

A detective from the year 2077 finds herself trapped in present day Vancouver and searching for ruthless criminals from the future. I was going to explore out this new serial – Continuum, I wasn’t actually thinking this show was going to be quite as good as it actually was. My all time favorite remains Fringe :)

Basic plot
: In the future the world is run by corporations. A group of terrorists (or freedom fighters, as you will) commit a 9/11 style crime and are captured/sentenced to death. However, just as they are to be executed they manage to smuggle in a time machine and slip away into the past with a cop unwittingly coming along for the ride. Now in their past, our present, they have weekly bad guy trying to destroy the world, good guy trying to stop them hi-jinks.

By 2077 governments have been replaced by corporate rule and the terrorists are trying to bring back democracy by a revolution, so they have decided to go back to the past. Unfortunately though they wanted to go back just 6 years they are accidentally taken back 60.

Something I didn’t like: “Playing with God”.. Where this came from, you made a time jump and still believe in God. I guess it is for believers in God to shut up and raise nothing over this :P

I felt the cast is very solid, and has potential. The future tech is pretty cool and enjoyable to watch. Not overwhelmingly futuristic, but just enough to keep the sci-fi fans like myself interested.
This show currently is on my must watch list. I think it has great potential, and hope it stays as good as it is now.

Rating – 7.5/10 [After watching first 5 episodes Of Season 1]
